When someone purchases gold anchor chains for themselves or others, it represents wearing high quality and valuable jewellery. All chains have a history that begins during the caveman era. It is strongly believed that cavemen created the first necklaces and strung together various bones and stones that were the first examples of chain necklaces. The first chain necklaces that featured gold were created in 2500 B.C. in a country that is known in modern times as Iraq. During that time that time the gold anchor chains started evolving from a simple look to being elaborate and beautiful and in its appearance.

The seeds of the beginning of the gold anchor chains started with the Egyptians creating thick collar gold chain necklaces and during the Roman period, only women could wear gold chain necklaces. Throughout the second and third centuries the gold chain necklaces continued to expand and change shape and design and many women often wore more than one around their neck. It was a status symbol of being very wealthy. By the 20th century during the early 1900s, the gold anchor chains had grown in Europe and became part of jewellery worn in America.

During the 1950s, all jewellery especially gold anchor chains begin to flourish and become very popular especially for women to wear. During this period jewellery made of gold was worn during the day and diamonds were worn at night. By the 1970s, women were becoming more often employed than staying at home and with the new found income, many took to buying more of their own jewellery especially gold anchor chains. Also during the same period many jewellery designers noticed that men were starting to wear more jewellery and decided to cater to them as well by creating gold anchor chains that were desirable for men to wear.

A driving factor in the increased sales of gold anchor chains during the late 1970s and all throughout the 1980s and 90s were an increase in movies and television shows featuring performances wearing various types of jewellery along with showcasing gold anchor chains. In recent years the chains have gone from being exclusively yellow gold to white gold giving it a look of elegance and class when worn. The most popular types sold are 14 carat gold and they can range from 7 inches to over 30 inches in length. Most gold anchor chains have a beautiful and very simple look with a clasp to lock around your neck.
